What To Expect

Knowing what to expect throughout the remodeling process is a good thing.  We hope this page will give you an understanding of what to expect as we progress from the initial consultation through to the completed project.

Step #1 - The Initial Consultation
Our first visit with you is entirely without cost or obligation.  That meeting will last as long as it takes to answer most of the questions that you probably have about your project - usually in the range of two hours.  What we won’t do is launch into a long-winded sales presentation.  We don’t like to give them any more than you like to get them.

By the time we finish this first visit, you’ll have an excellent understanding of the feasibility and potential that exists in your home.  You’ll be able to face the decisions you must make with confidence; knowing that your chosen course of action is exactly the right one for you.

Step #2 - The Design Phase
To a certain point, every minute we spend in the Design Phase pays big dividends in the finished project - in both creativity and cost-effectiveness.  While we work hard at avoiding the trap of over-designing (we want to keep this as affordable as possible, after all), it's important to take into account all the variables that can impact the finished project.

It's not sufficient to simply point you in the direction we feel you need to go.  A large part of our communication with you is educational in nature.  We want you to understand the many options you need to consider and how each course of action affects the whole of the project.  By fully understanding the issues, you can make informed, intelligent decisions.  You'll avoid the fate of so many homeowners who spend thousands of dollars remodeling their homes, only to realize that they would do it differently if given a second chance.  That predicament is not their fault.  It's the fault of a careless designer.

The conclusion of the Design Phase is a set of plans that will show you exactly what you're going to get - in 3D, no less.  There will also be a full proposal - in clear-as-a-bell English - with a firm, bid price.  If it is decided to proceed on a time and material basis, we will have a target price agreed upon.  At that point, you'll decide whether or not to proceed with construction.

Step #3 - Getting It Built
The bulk of the construction, and all management of it is with our hired employees.  It is the only way that we can maintain control of your project.  While sub-contracting has it's place, it's far too easy for subs to chase other jobs while leaving you stranded.  We can provide a far better service when our people are under our direct supervision.

We have a production manager who is responsible for the smooth and efficient allocation of our resources - employees, subs, materials, and equipment.  He oversees all of the crews in our employ.  Every job also has an on-site supervisor.  This lead carpenter is responsible for the day to day flow of your job.  He's the first one you turn to for all the questions you might have.  We hire these folks for their carpentry, management, and interpersonal skills.  They are professionals in every sense of the word.

Certain trades, such as plumbing and electrical, are performed by sub-contractors.  However, we have worked hard over the years to cultivate trades people who share the same vision that we do.  Subs who don't care much about the quality of their work do not last long with us.

The constant goal that we are striving for is an improvement to your home that is constructed in an efficient and timely manner; one that, when completed, we can both be proud of.
